Interesting Course Option for Winter 2013

PACS Students! There’s a Winter 2013 History course that may interest some of you: Global Indigenous Issues,

It’s not yet PACS-approved, but you might stand a good chance of getting credit if you petitioned PACSAG. There are still some spaces left if you are still playing around with your winter schedule!

Deadline Extension for the MSCU Peace Advancement Challenge

The deadline for the new MSCU Peace Advancement Challenge scholarship has been extended to JANUARY 11, 2013. This is a great opportunity for students to utilize the down time of their break and put together a peace proposal that could win up to $5000! Summer Internship at Willowgrove Day Camp

Willowgrove Day Camp (Glenbrook) is seeking a Peace Camp and Conflict Mediation Supervise to assist in writing peace education curriculum, overseeing conflict mediation, and training staff on Restorative Discipline. This is a full time internship in Stouffville, ON, that runs from June 1 to August 30. Past interns have found this to be a rewarding experience that allowed them to solidify the theories and lessons of PACS course in tangible, hands on practice. Amnesty International Canada Internship

Amnesty International Canada’s Ottawa office will be hiring two interns in 2013 – one for May to August and another for September to December. Each intern will be granted a $6000 honorarium and must NOT have worked in the field of human rights prior to the internship. MCC Ottawa Student Seminar

From February 14 – 16, Mennonite Central Committee’s Ottawa Office is running their annual Advocacy Student Seminar. This one is entitled “Peacebuilding in a Dangerous Time”. More details and registration can be found the MCC website. I went to the 2011 seminar and can safely say it was one of the best events I’ve ever attended. If you are interested in going, I myself have registered and will be attempting to arrange a carpool. Send me an email at to join in on the transportation!

2013 Inter-Collegiate Peace Fellowship Conference in Bluffton, Ohio

“Spirituality & Shalom: Living at the Intersection of Faith & Justice,” the 2013 Intercollegiate Peace Fellowship conference, will be held February 8-10 at Bluffton University. The keynote speaker is Dr. Sam Hamilton-Poore. He is an assistant professor and director of the Christian spirituality program at San Francisco Theological Seminary, and author of the book “Earth Gospel: A Guide to Prayer for God’s Creation.”

The conference will also feature workshops; a Saturday night, Feb. 9, performance by the Bluffton-based band Anabaptist Bestiary Project; and a worship service on Sunday morning, Feb. 10, in Yoder Recital Hall.
